Track 08 of 16 Higher Vibrations · Chapter II · The Alignment

Ananda

The sitar takes the lead. The wordless female voice fully blooms. Deep house that feels familiar and brand new at the same time.

The sound

Ananda is where the sitar takes the lead. A warm deep house groove locks in underneath — soft four-on-the-floor, sub bass glued to the kick — and the wordless female voice fully blooms, singing alap. The muted guitar steps back but never leaves.

You're swaying before you realize you are. The melody loops and loops until you stop tracking time. Tabla threads through the texture, a faint tambura drone holds the room. The music opens into something that feels both familiar and brand new at the same time.

Bliss without cause. The state, not the feeling.

The story of Ananda

Joy, unearned.

Where joy needs no reason.

It rises like warmth. Unasked.

At first you look for the reason it must have. The good news that arrived. The thing that finally went right. The problem that quietly solved itself while you weren't watching. There's nothing. The day is the same day. And still — here it is: a joy with no reason attached, like a warm hand laid over your heart.

02 / 08

You didn't earn this.

That's the first thing you notice, and it undoes you. This isn't the happiness you spent so long chasing — the kind you had to achieve or be chosen for, that came when things went your way and left the moment they didn't. This asks nothing of you. It isn't a reward. It was never waiting up ahead at the end of some line.

03 / 08

It was under everything. The whole time.

No one gave you this — it was always yours. It isn't that you finally became enough. It's that you were never empty to begin with. Under all the wanting, the striving, the long ache of something missing: this. Whole. Untouched. Yours before you knew to look.

04 / 08

Your body understands first.

Something lets go. Your eyes sting. You laugh, once, at nothing. You want to sit down somewhere soft, close your eyes, and let it move through you — to stop holding your life at arm's length and simply be alive inside it.

05 / 08

You're alive. That's enough.

That, in the end, is the whole of it. It feels ancient and newborn at once — a joy you're meeting for the first time and remembering from before you had words. The one that was in you as a child, before the world taught you to earn your worth.

06 / 08

There's a word for it: ananda.

Not a mood. Not a good day. A ground you can stand on. The joy that isn't the opposite of sorrow but the thing beneath them both — the quiet, unreasonable, unshakable gladness of simply being. The world didn't hand it to you. So the world can't take it back.

07 / 08

You could stay here forever.

And for one long moment, you do. Still. Warm. Full. Wanting to be nowhere else.

08 / 08

It won't stay hidden.

Then, something you didn't expect. This much light won't stay put. It doesn't ask permission. Without a word from you, without your trying to show anyone anything, it begins — softly, unmistakably — to shine out of you. You didn't announce a thing. It's already beginning to radiate.
